Nighttime Urination! It is a condition in which the volume of urine remains normal. But you need to go to the bathroom frequently because your bladder can not empty completely or it is unable to fill completely before having the urge to urinate. It can also occur due to health conditions that cause difficulty sleeping. You may wake up due to some other reason and go to the washroom and perceive that you needed to urinate. Factors that affect the abilities of the bladder to fill completely can be;
- Bladder obstruction

Feeling restless and fatigued in the day
Urinating more volume than normal or urinating small amount and more frequently
To treat nocturia, the healthcare providers would diagnose and treat the underlying cause. They may also advise you of some lifestyle changes like;
- Do not drink caffeinated beverages at least two to three hours before going to sleep.
- If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar levels and keep them under control.
- Restrict drinking too much water from the evening.
- If you take a diuretic, try taking it in the daytime, or at least six hours before going to bed.
- Have a nap in the afternoon so that you do not feel sleepy all day.
- Even if you are not ready to sleep, elevate your legs for some time. It will help if you have nocturia due to fluid retention.
- Wear compression stockings. They help get rid of retained fluid in your legs and feet.

Anticholinergics- to treat overactive bladder
Diuretics that help in regulating the urine flow
Desmopressin- a drug that lowers urine output from kidneys
